Obituary of Samson Wong
On the 5th October 2018, Samson Wong, 39, passed away at home in Toronto while in the company of his family.
Samson was born in Toronto on the 14th January 1979. In a word, he was brilliant. Samson’s love of learning grew ever stronger from the time he attended Blessed Cardinal Newman Catholic High School through his university studies at the University of Toronto and Queen’s University. His quest for knowledge took him on a journey to obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science and Criminology, a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws in Constitutional Law. He practised law in Ontario & Trinidad and Tobago and with determination to publish a paper in his early career, he became a published author on constitutional rights issues in 2014.
Samson’s penchant for information took him on a wander of multiple news websites, daily – the left-wing, the right-wing, the satirical and everything in between. He could speak about global current affairs as easily as he could tell you about the latest entertainment world scandal. He enjoyed reading since he was a child and at his last breath his bookshelf was filled with mystery novels, political and historical biographies, books on philosophy and logic and his first true love, comic books; his chess tournament trophies acting as the bookends. Samson also loved watching movies and sports. It was not uncommon to find him doing all of these things at the same time (including while reading legal papers) – he would say he was “multi-tasking”.
Samson was the beloved husband of Alyssa Achong Low and cherished son of Anna and the late Shui Ching Wong. Samson will be missed by his siblings, Phoebe and Vincent (Catherine); his parents-in-law, Kongshiek and Joan; his brother-in-law, Kwong-Mun (Bhiravi); and his niece and nephews, Sahastra, Kannon and Xavier.
Visitation will be held at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St, Toronto) on Tuesday October 9th from 5-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church (3220 Bayview Ave, Toronto) on Wednesday October 10th at 10 a.m. Interment at York Cemetery
Samson may be memorialized and expressions of sympathy may be sent through charitable donations directed to the Home Hemodialysis Program at Toronto General Hospital; and by taking this opportunity to consider registering your consent to organ and tissue donation at https://www.beadonor.ca. Further information on how to direct any donation will be available at the Funeral Home next week.
Alyssa remains profoundly grateful for the compassionate care offered to Samson by the medical and allied health service teams at Toronto General Hospital, and in particular its Lung Transplant Program, Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Home Hemodialysis Program; the Provincial Centre for Excellence in Weaning from Mechanical Ventilation at Michael Garron Hospital; West Park Healthcare Centre, and in particular its Respiratory Rehabilitation ward and Sleep Laboratory; the LHIN VENT Program; and the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care.
