Obituary of Joan Beverley Mahoney

In loving memory of “Bev”, our mother/grandmother/sister and friend to many.

After a last, courageous battle that she knew she could not win, Bev passed away at the age of 83 on Sunday June 24, 2018 at Sunnybrook Hospital.

Wife of the late John P. Mahoney (1998).  Beloved mother of Patricia and her children Emily and Madeline, Mike & Elaine and their children Mikaela, Patrick, Rachel, Eric and Eden, and, Anne Marie & Lou and their children Tom and Brian.  Loving sister of Rosemary Ryan.  She was predeceased by her brother Leonard Ryan (surviving Elizabeth) and her sister Shirely Campagnola (late Aldo)

Mom (otherwise known to all as "Grammy") was the strength of our family.  She was a small, feisty woman who met challenges in life “head on” and her love of her family, faith and her wonderful sense of humour carried her through the ups and downs of life.

As years passed, the family grew, grandchildren were born and twenty years ago, she buried Dad.  In the remaining few years of her life, her health began to decline and yet, she persevered to do her best each day thinking of others by doing acts of kindness such as making a lemon cake or banana muffins to cheer up friends in her apartment building or making sure there was always a piece of apple pie when we visited.  Mom could not easily express her emotions or feelings but we knew we were loved by her actions which often meant so much more than words.  She deeply cared and loved her family and those whom she considered as “friends”.

There’s so much more that could be said about the life of a woman who worked hard every day and devoted her life looking after and loving her family until her last breath…

Her loss is immeasurable and she is profoundly missed.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Schulich Heart Centre, c/o Sunnybrook Foundation or a charity of your choice is appreciated.
