June 30, 1944 - December 02, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Derrick Anthony Phillips. Derrick passed away peacefully on December 02, 2017 at the age of 73. He was dearly loved by his wife of 50 years, Laraine (Larrie) Phillips, his children, Lisa (Larry) and Stephen (Michelle), his grandson Xander and siblings, Keith, Denise and Annette and many family and friends.
Born on June 30, 1944 in Kingston, Jamaica to Frank and Sylvia Phillips, Derrick immigrated to Montreal and eventually Toronto in 1966. He enrolled in George Brown College and started a career as a business machine specialist. Eventually he left the corporate world and started his own printing business, Phillips Copy Centre. For over 25 years Derrick proudly provided stellar customer service and built many relationships within the community.
Derrick’s proudest moment was the birth of his grandson, Xander. Though his time with his grandson was brief, they quickly developed a special loving bond. He had a particular song he would sing just for his grandson, and Xander would smile and laugh every time he heard Grandpa sing.
